Beautiful vocals,
reminiscent of Celia Cruz, more killer Cuban salsa,
son, and a touch of timba.
Doris Lavín, comes from the province of Matanzas,
known as the “cradle of the Rumba” Since
she was a young girl she received the influence of
the rhythm, the flavor and musical color which comes
from the largest island in the Antillies.
In 1990 she joined the female group “ Son las
que son” alternating concerts with Gonzalo Rubalcaba
(Senior) and Félix Valoy, among others. This
gave her the chance to be heard by Lázaro Herrera,
trumpet player of the Septeto Nacional “ Ignacio
Piñeiro ”.He praised her vocal talent
and to quote; “In my times you would have been
considered to be a sonera among the biggest soneros”.
All of this helped Doris Lavín decide to consolidate
her professional career, integrating herself in the
first group of students of popular song in the Upper
Institute of Arts (ISA) in Havana.
In the year 1995 she traveled to Europe with the group
“ Osaín ” under the direction of
Eduardo Piloto Barreto, aswell as being guest singer
for the “Conjunto Folklórico Nacional
de Cuba ”, and also performed alongside Carlos
“Patato” Valdés.
Since 1996 Doris lives in Italy. She performed at
various jazz and ethnic music festivals and dedided
that the time was right to prepare for her first solo
record that also bears her name. Among the musicians
that appear on her debut CD are Javier “Caramelo”
Gutiérrez and Alain Pérez (ex musicians,
from different generations of the Issac Delgado’s
group ), aswell as obtaining the direct contribution
of the maestro Dagoberto González, violinist
of Pablo Milánes.
